Kevin Greenidge Charitable Trust Gifts Road Tennis Court and Equipment to Nightingale Children’s Home
The Kevin Greenidge Charitable Trust (KGCT) on Friday handed over a full road tennis court, six
balls, and six rackets to the wards of the Nightingale Children’s Home, in a heartfelt ceremony that
underscored the charity’s unwavering commitment to uplifting Barbados’ most vu lnerable young
people. The wards will also benefit from complimentary coaching sessions provided by the Trust.
The donation reflects the KGCT’s mission of empowering vulnerable children through
purposeful activity, equipping them not only with equipment, but with the intangibles of team spirit,
self-confidence, self-worth, and self-esteem, while nurturing in them the belief that their circumstances
do not define their destiny.
In addressing the children at Friday’s handover, KGCT Founder and Governor of the Central Bank
of Barbados, Dr., The Most Honourable Kevin Greenidge, F.B., delivered a message as powerful as the
gesture itself. He reminded the young wards that they are each valuable, regardless of their background,
circumstances, or present-day reality, and urged them never to allow anyone to diminish their sense of
self-worth.
His words carried a weight that was deeply personal. Dr. Greenidge is himself a former ward of
the Nightingale Children’s Home, who has risen to one of the most distinguished offices in Barbados.
Friday’s handover was, in many ways, a living testament to t he very message he preached, that is that
one’s lane needs not determine one’s destination.
That theme resonated strongly with His Excellency, Lieutenant Colonel The Most Honourable
Jeffrey Bostic, F.B., M.V.O, President of Barbados, who graced the occasion and described the event as
deeply significant.
“This is a clear illustration of how my ‘From the Lane to Hillaby’ idea works,” said President Bostic.
“Here stands a man who came from this very place, who has climbed to his own Hillaby, and rather than
forget his lane, he came back to light the way for others. That is what we must do as a people.”
“We are truly grateful to the Kevin Greenidge Charitable Trust for this wonderful gift,” said Ms.
Haynes. “The court will beautifully complement the activities our students already enjoy, while also
introducing them to road tennis, a proud and indigenous Barbadian game. It connects them to their
culture while giving them a healthy and competitive outlet.”
The KGCT’s investment in the Nightingale Children’s Home reaffirms the charity’s belief that
every child, irrespective of background, deserves access to opportunities that build character, foster
belonging, and ignite potential.
Some other highlights of the ceremony included a road tennis blitz among the wards and an
exhibition game between the KGCT Founder and the President of Barbados.
