Three Young Barbadians Receive KGCT Scholarship Awards
The Kevin Greenidge Charitable Trust (KGCT) has awarded its annual scholarships to three outstanding young Barbadians, marking a significant milestone with the presentation of the organization’s first scholarships to male recipients.
The 2025 KGCT Scholars are Makayla Carter, pursuing Environmental Science with a focus on ocean conservation; David Gittens, breaking new ground as he follows his passion for sports and dreams of becoming a Physical Education teacher; and Elijah Henry, combining tech skills with community service.
“Your beginning is not your ending,” said Dr. Kevin Greenidge, founder of the KGCT. “These three young people represent hope, determination, and the unwavering belief that circumstances don’t define destiny. We’re not just investing money in them – we’re investing our belief and commitment to walking this journey with them.”
The scholarships provide financial support along with monthly mentorship sessions designed to guide recipients through their academic and professional journeys. This comprehensive approach reflects the Trust’s commitment to nurturing Barbadian talent beyond traditional funding models.
Dr. Greenidge, who spent part of his childhood in a children’s home before going on to work with the IMF and serve as Central Bank Governor, emphasised that the recipients’ diverse fields of study – from environmental science to education to technology – demonstrate the breadth of talent emerging from Barbados.
The KGCT continues its mission of empowering young Barbadians to pursue higher education and professional excellence, regardless of their background or circumstances.
